My research interests include medieval Arabic medicine, pharmacy, perfumery, cookery, and anything connected to it, as well as the history of science in Arabo-Islamicate societies more broadly.
I am also interested in (modern) Arabic literature, which I sometimes translate in my spare time.
If you want to learn more about my research, check out these pieces I've written for various scholarly online publications:
- A Snake Oil from Tenth Century al-Andalus, The Recipes Project
- What Culinary History Can Teach Us: Tracing Dishes Through the Library of Arabic Literature, Library for Arabic Literature Blog
- Even Better Than the Real Thing: Faking Foodstuffs in 13th-Century Syria, AHA Perspectives Daily
This blog will, I hope, come to serve as a place where I collect my favourite resources for anything connected to my research. In the meantime, I'll share any new publications on my page on academia.edu .
