My name is Leonie Rau, and I am a doctoral student at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Knowledge's Research School 'Knowledge and Its Resources' in Berlin, with a parallel association at the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies.

My research project investigates how knowledge was transmitted through premodern Arabic recipe collections and is supervised by Prof. Dr. Beatrice Gründler, Prof. Dr. Cale Johnson, and Prof. Dr. Lucia Raggetti. I am particularly interested in technical, medical-pharmaceutical, and culinary knowledge as well as perfumery.

I received my BA (2020) and MA (2022) from the University of Tübingen, where I previously worked as a research associate at the Department for Oriental and Islamic Studies at the University of Tuebingen, Germany.

In my spare time, I write and edit for ArabLit & ArabLitQuarterly and occasionally translate Arabic literature.
